Paris, 10 March 2023 – AVEBIO aims at demonstrating the production of sustainable e-fuels for air transport from CO2 that has not yet been recovered by a biofuel production unit. The objective of this industrial pilot is to exploit the biomass stock while using competitive synthetic carbon to revive the e-fuel industry. The AVEBIO project will also feature an end-to-end CO2 to e-fuel solution through the integration of 2 reactions: reverse Water Gas Shift (rWGS) from CO2 to CO and Fischer Tropsch from CO to e-fuels.
KHIMOD will provide heat exchangers-reactors within CO2 hydrogenation units, producing valuable synthetic molecules and overcoming the main technological barrier to reverse water-gas shift, namely heat management. KHIMOD will also provide the Fischer Tropsch reactor and the necessary interaction between the rWGS and the Fischer Tropsch technological building blocks. Elyse Energy will coordinate the project and explore the launch of an industrial pilot on the RYAM site in Tartas to recover biogenic CO2 from the second-generation bioethanol plant.
AVEBIO was supported as part of the 4th Programme d’Investissement d’Avenir – France 2030 (Investing in the Future programme) via the Call for Projects aimed at “developing a French sustainable aviation fuel production industry” known as CARB AERO.
KHIMOD is a French greentech company that develops and sells solutions for the production of valuable synthetic molecules such as e-methane, e-methanol and e-kerosene. The KHIMOD technology has been tried and tested in the field and is based on disruptive and innovative heat exchangers-reactors, making it possible to reuse and recover CO2. In addition to its reactors, KHIMOD designs and manufactures turnkey systems and provides related services for the production of these synthetic molecules. KHIMOD operates on several markets worldwide, namely waste recovery, chemistry, high-emission industries (e.g. steel and cement), air transport and shipping.
“We are proud to partner with Elyse Energy on this innovative project. We sincerely believe that e-SAF is the future of aviation, and KHIMOD develops the solutions needed to reduce carbon intensity in air transport”. Nicolas Serrie, CEO of KHIMOD.
“Sustainable aviation fuels are key to supporting carbon intensity reduction in air transport. To this end, direct use of CO2 will be essential to ensure sufficient sustainable supply. We are delighted to work with Khimod on the AVEBIO project to develop an efficient CO2-to-SAF technological building block”. Benoit Decourt, Co-founder and Managing Director of Elyse Energy .
